The Katsina State Police Command over the weekend said its timely intervention and that of other security agents in the state including a vigilance group saved 26 persons from being burnt alive at Rugar kindi village in Dandume Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
The command said the victims were to be lynched by members of an outlawed vigilante group, Yansakai.
Police Spokesperson in the state, Gambo Isah, who spoke with journalists about the incident, said that Yansakai members had on Friday afternoon, swooped on Rugar Kindi village, mainly occupied by the Fulani, and started burning down houses in the place.
The police said a policeman and a soldier who sustained injuries while saving the people were receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The Yansakai members allegedly claimed that the 26 people were bandits.
