The Member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, Hon Chinedum Orji, has emerged Speaker of the Seventh Abia House of Assembly.
The 24 members of the house unanimously elected Hon. Chinedum Orji and his deputy Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu of Ohafia South constituency during the inauguration witnessed by a mammoth crowd amidst tight security
In his acceptance speech, the Speaker of the house, Hon. Chinedum Orji, promised that the house under his watch would enact sound laws and legislation that would uplift the lives and well-being of Ndi-Abia
Hon. Orji said the house would provide sound oversight functions signifying that the era of disobeying laws and resolutions passed by the house would be a thing of the past.
According to him, the leadership of the house will pay attention to the welfare of youths and members of the house to enable them to empower their constituents.
Orji who expressed gratitude for the privilege to serve, pledged to protect and preserve the equity and justice already entrenched in the state, adding that he would not disappoint the people.
Other principal officers of the 7th Assembly include; Solomon Akpulonu (Obingwa East) as the majority leader and Paul Taribo (Ukwa East) as deputy majority leader.
Abraham Oba of Aba Central is the new minority leader while Chijioke Chukwu of Bende North deputizes him.
The chief whip is Munachim Alozie (Ugwunagbo) and deputy chief whip, Chukwudi Apugo(Umuahia East).
