Chelsea legend, John Terry, has hit back at Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, for naming Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Manchester United hero Jaap Stam ahead of him when ranking the best defenders in the Premier League history.
Ferdinand had named himself in number position, Nemanja Vidic (second), Van Dijk (third) and Stamp (fourth) ahead of Terry (fifth) while speaking on his YouTube show ‘Between the Lines’.
The 43-year-old was discussing with Van Dijk on the show when he rated his best centre-backs in the history of the Premier League.
After placing Van Dijk in third, the Dutchman defender disagreed by saying: “I have only won one Premier League!” but Ferdinand responded: “Yeah I know but I think the impact you have on the team is massive and your attributes will put you right in the top tier.”
Speaking about Terry, Ferdinand said: “In terms of his longevity at that club, what they won, body on the line, a much better footballer than people give him credit for, could play off his left and right foot.”
But that was not enough for Terry, who was clearly not happy with his placement in Ferdinand’s rankings.
Responding to Ferdinand on Instagram, Terry suggested he should be far higher on the list.
The former Aston Villa assistant manager posted on his Instagram story a number of graphics to defend his position, such as the number of times he made the World XI and his win percentage being higher than any other defender.
Terry then accompanied his response with the comment: “Opinions are great but stats don’t lie…”
