Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has dropped the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Semi Ajayi from his final 23-man squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Iheanacho struggled for regular playing time at English Premier League outfit Leicester City in the 2018-19 season and failed to convince Rohr he is worthy of a place in the final team for the competition.
Ajayi was a standout performer for Rotherham United but was up against more experienced players who play at bigger clubs.
The 23 players and their officials will face the Terangha Lions of Senegal in their final friendly match on June 16.
Also World athletics’ governing body, the IAAF on Sunday announced that it will rebrand as World Athletics.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) was initially founded in 1912 as the International Amateur Athletic Federation.
The body, currently presided over by Britain’s two-time Olympic 1500m gold medallist, Sebastian Coe, took its present name in 2001.
Coe said the name will come into effect after the championships in Doha and following congress’ approval of the change to the federation’s legal name.
