The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday, said it has temporarily suspended clinical trials of hydroxychloroquine, as potential treatment for COVID-19.
WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, addressing a virtual press conference, said the WHO-backed trials had been suspended while the safety is reviewed.
The decision has been taken, after a publication indicated that the use of Chloroquine could increase the likelihood of dying. WHO, also said eating a healthy diet is important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHO explained that food and drink can affect the body’s ability to prevent, fight and recover from infections.
It said no food or dietary supplements can prevent or cure COVID-19 infection, adding that healthy diets are important for supporting the immune systems.
