Senate Adjourns Plenary To Honour Fallen Soldiers

The Senate on Thursday cut short plenary in honor of Nigerian soldiers killed by Boko Haram insurgents in the last four days.

Senate President Bukola Saraki during plenary told lawmakers that 44 soldiers were killed five days ago by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

In his contribution, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu expressed disappointment at the neglect of Nigerian soldiers. He said the killing of 44 soldiers in one day should alarm the nation.

He urged everyone to be concerned and the Federal Government to find other measures to protect them.

Senator Ekweremadu said further that every responsible country takes the death of soldiers seriously and the Senate must investigate if the Federal Government has put adequate measures to protect soldiers.

Before the Senate adjourned, it mandated its committee on the army to pay a condolence visit to families of the deceased and the Chief of Army Staff to investigate the situation and ascertain what military measures are in place to protect the soldiers.
