Youths of the Oro ethnic group have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Akwa Ibom State government to recognize local government areas within the area among oil producing host communities in the State.
Organized under the aegis of Oro Youth Congress, the youths in a peaceful protest in Oron, blocked all major entrances to Oron Federal Constituency, insisting that they would not tolerate further marginalization of the area.
The convener of the protest, Lovestic Esu, and one of the protester demanded that the resolution of the National Assembly and the National Executive Council recognizing Oron Federal constituency as an oil producing area must be obeyed. Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom state commissioner for environment and petroleum resources, Ekong Samson, assured them of the state government resolve in ensuring that their demands are met.
