Members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE), Umuahia North LGA chapter of Abia State staged a peaceful protest yesterday over their unpaid four months’ salary arrears and leave allowances of 2014, 2018 and 2019.

The Members who came out in large numbers as early as 9am, blocked the entrance of the council headquarter with placards bearing different inscriptions such as; “Give us our milk, we are suffering” “Don’t pay us on Thumbprint, let it go round the 17 LGAs.” “Pay us our four months’ salary arrears” among others

Speaking in an interview with Correspondent Godwin Ike during the protest held at the council’s Headquarters in Umuahia, the NULGE Chairman Umuahia North, Comrade Nkemakolam Nwosu, expressed displeasure over their condition which he said has caused untold hardship in their families

Comrade Nwosu alleged that the allocations have been coming into the joint account of the State and Local Government but wondered why they are still being owed.

When contacted the state Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu through phone call, insisted that the state government has no hands on why they are owed, adding that he has discussed with the Umuahia North TC Chairman who informed him that the delay was something that had to do with the bank, assuring that plans were on the way to pay the workers one-month salary.
