The minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole says Nigeria has recorded highest number of Lassa fever from 2017 till this year which is the highest in Africa.
The minister stated this during the opening ceremony of the 61st Conference of the National Council on Health holding in Kano State.
Professor Adewole said the Federal Government had taken proactive measures in stemming the proliferation of the disease.
The minister explained that the measures taken by the federal government to curtail the challenge of Lassa fever had tremendously reduced the disease to about 77%.
Declaring the National Conference open, the Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said his government was inspired to host the meeting considering the importance it had placed on the provision of an all-encompassing health care system.
He called on the National Council on Health and other stakeholders to consolidate on the gains put on ground by the Federal Government on the sustenance of health care within the Millennium Development Goals.
