After busting a fraud syndicate that seriously compromised its internally generated revenue (IGR), the new management of Abia State Polytechnic (Abiapoly), Aba has adopted strategic measures to boost the revenue profile of the institution.
This was made known by the Rector, Professor Ezionye Eboh during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia State Council, saying that the strategic business unit of the institution has been reinvigorated to bring in the needed cash.
He said that with enhanced IGR, Abiapoly would overcome the challenge of defaulting in payment of its 1, 400 staff whose monthly wage bill is N180 million.
According to him, some of the revenue- yielding businesses owned by the institution have been revived, including the guest house, bakery, and bottled water, among others.
Prof Eboh, who assumed duties in February said that there were a lot of challenges facing Abiapoly when he came on board, adding that the institution was “like a grave yard” as it was crippled by labour unions that were on strike.
He said that it took him three days to negotiate with the unions to call off their strike and bring academic life back to the institution hence things were now looking better for Abiapoly.
