Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff of Nigerian Universities SSANU and Non Academic Staff Union NASU Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Chapter yesterday joined the nationwide 3 day protest to compel the Federal Government to address the inconsistencies in payment using Integrated Personnel Payment System IPPIS.
The union members who matched round the University premises carrying placards with different inscriptions are also demanding the payment of earned allowances and arrears on minimum wage for their members.
Speaking to newsmen during the protest, Chairman of the Joint Action Committee, Comrade Ken Njoku, said the unions are also protesting the usurpation of headship of non-teaching units in the universities by academic staff which according to them violates condition of the service.
The two unions are also protesting non-payment of retirement benefits of their members including neglect and poor funding of State Universities.
The protests follow an earlier statement by the NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, and the SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim calling on all members in branches of Universities and Inter-University centres across the nation to embark on industrial action.
