Meanwhile the Independent National Electoral Commission in Enugu has asked media practitioners in Enugu State to ensure balanced coverage and issue based reportage.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Emeka Ononamadu, who stated this while addressing members of the Civil Society Organisations and Inter-Party Advisory Council in a meeting in Enugu, expressed concern about the spate of violence in the primaries organised by political parties.
The REC who described the violence as worrisome, added that such a situation was new to the history of primary elections in the state.
He, however, expressed optimism that such ugly incidents would not be witnessed in the next general elections, adding that citizens should work to put a stop to electoral violence.
Ononamadu also disclosed that 1,504,858 people had collected their permanent voter cards in Enugu State while the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,958,547.
