Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu Tuesday urged employers in both public and private sectors of the economy to fully utilize the potentials of the National Youth Corps members posted to serve in their organisations.

He made the call at the closing ceremony of the 2019 batch “A” orientation course programme at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Umunna in Bende local government.

The Abia governor, who was represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, noted that the corps members were being underutilized by employers thereby denying the youths the opportunity to release their full potentials in the service of their father land.

According to him, the nation would be the loser for it if corps members were not fired on to effectively contribute to national development during their device year.

He asked the 2,088 corps members that participated in the orientation programme “to think seriously now of how you can make your impact felt in the communities where you are going to serve”.

In her address the state coordinator of NYSC in Abia, Mrs. Francesca Ifon urged the corps members to brace up for the challenges of nation building as they take up their primary assignments.

She charged them to nurture and exhibit the leadership traits in them and “dream big” for their host communities, adding that they should strive to leave behind legacies that would outlive them at the end of their service year.

The state coordinator appealed to employers to attend to the welfare needs of corps members posted to serve with them, noting that adequate welfare package would “motivate them to be fully committed to their assignments”.
