Activities marking the 2021 Armed Forces Rembrance Day in Abia State came to a climax today with the Laying of wreath at the feet of the Unknown Soldier and a two minutes silence observed for the fallen heroes by the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and others at the Old Cenotaph Ground, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Ikpeazu, represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Okochukwu, called on Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of the Armed Forces in various wars and peace keeping mission by collectively resolving to live in peace with one another.

The Governor said, greater commitments should be made towards the task of building a greater and better society instead of dwelling on things that tend to destablise the society.

He added that his administration would continue to encourage and support the Nigeria Legion and other Security agencies in the State with the available resources in recognition of their complimentary roles.

He described the theme of the 2021 event, “Paying The Supreme Price In Line Of Duty in Honour of Our Fallen Heroes and Heroines” as apt given the security challenges and other forms of criminalities the men and women of the Forces and other Security Agencies are contending with at the expense of their lives.

The Governor said parcels of land has been allocated for the State Legion Permanent Secretarit at Ubani Ibeku and construction of a befitting Cenotaph at Amafor Isingwu all in the State Capital among other things
