Akwa United Football club of Uyo head coach, Abdu Maikaba has revealed the management of the club gave him a CAF Champions League target shortly before he completed his switch from Wikki Tourists Football club of Bauchi.
Maikaba led Wikki Tourist Fc to a third-place finish in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season as the Bauchi club finished behind Champions Enugu Rangers and Rivers United Fc in the overall classification.
The football tactician say his brilliant track record prompted his new employers to raise the bar with regards to what they require him to achieve with the ‘Promise Keepers’ this term.
Akwa United is currently in third place on the NPFL standings this season, but the Uyo club endured a difficult start to the campaign, failing to win in their first five matches in the NPFL.
Maikaba said he was not worried about turning the corner during those difficult early days.
Akwa United have suffered just one defeat in their last 10 NPFL matches.
The Promise Keepers, currently third on the NPFL standings, have amassed 43 points from 26 matches this season.
