Health workers in Abia state to establish a stable salary structure


The Abia State chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress, Uchenna Obigwe has called on the management of the health sectors at all levels to carry every health worker along and to ensure that all health workers are paid with the same salary structure as this will promote team work in health care delivery.

Obigwe, who stated this during the international Nurses week commemoration at Micheal Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia Abia State, called on federal government to ensure they fulfil the agreement reached with health workers in the country, even as he commended the Nurses and midwives in the state for being able to source fund and organize their week, despite being owed salaries by the government.

Addressing the Nurses, the representative of Governor Ikpeazu, special adviser to the Governor on health, Felix Chikwendu, said Abia state Government has done much in the improvement of Nurses in the State adding that the issue of pension and salaries will be addressed soon, as government is carrying out biometric verification to ascertain the real pensioners in the state.

Earlier, the Abia state Chairman of the National Association of Nurses and midwives, Comrade Ugochi Akoma, said Nigerian Nurses consist of a significant percentage of the workforce in the health sector, adding that Nurses are facing the challenge of short staff in the State, a situation one nurse will be in -charge of a whole hospital.
