Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has stressed the need for public Office holders to always cooperate with the Code of Conduct Bureau by truthfully declaring their assets before assuming their official capacities as this would go a long way in checkmating corrupt practices and enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of the nation.

Governor Ikpeazu who stated this when he received a delegation of the Code of Conduct Bureau led by the new State Director, Abel Sunday who paid him a courtesy visit at Government lodge Aba, directed Secretary to the State Government to ensure no public office holder would be sworn-in unless there is evidence that such individual has declared his assets.

The Governor however implored the Code of Conduct Bureau to play the role of an enabler by finding ways of encouraging individuals to willingly declare their assets through capacity building, seminars, etc.

Earlier, the State Director, Code of Conduct Bureau, Abel Sunday, said they came to seek the State Government’s cooperation in enforcing Abians and political office holders to declare their assets before the Bureau as it would act as a check in curbing corruption and reducing excesses of Public Officers and Politicians.

He noted that while some public office holders in the State have declared their assets others are yet to do so, adding that in the appropriate circumstances, his office would also enforce compliance with the law.

Correspondent Godwin Ike reports that the member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike, the State PDP Chairman, Asiforo Okere, among other Government officials witnessed the event.
