Association of Former elected councilors of Abia state 1999-2002 has adopted Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as their consensus candidate in the fourth coming Governorship Election.
In a motion moved by Ukala Onyekachi from Isuikwuato, seconded by Endy Enyioko from Ukwa west and approved by the Association during its meeting held on Thursday 31st May 2018 at Umuahia Township Stadium, the group said the adoption became necessary having considered the unquestionable performances of governor Ikpeazu within three years.
The Leader of the group, Tony Agbanyim while appraising the unprecedented achievement of the present administration in the areas of infrastructural development, Agriculture, commerce, health care, security in Aba, rural development, capacity building among others despite obvious challenges and meagre resources as well as negative distraction that trailed the administration said the State will witness more democratic dividends if the governor is re-elected for the second time.
Agbanyim also thanked Governor Ikpeazu for prioritizing the welfare of the former elected councilors 1999-2002 as well as the cordial relationship between his administration and non-indigenes in the state whom he appointed into various positions of trust charging him not to relent in his bid to leave Abia better than he met it.
In their separate speeches, Vitus Ebem from Aba-north, Uche Orji – Umunneochi, Dike Nwachukwu – Isialangwa North, Obinna Nwankwo – Arochukwu and others described the State governor as a silent achiever stating that the association chose to adopt him as their sole candidate after due consultation and assured of their unwavering support to the governor in the general election while pleading with Ikpeazu to remember former elected councilors in his future appointments.
