Gov. Ikpeazu inaugurates committee on Aba Abattoir relocation


Abia State Governor, Okezie lkpeazu has inaugurated a five man Committee on the relocation of the Abattoir at Waterside Aba with a charge to ensure the immediate relocation of Abattoir and cattle herders to avoid further degradation of environment and threat to public health.

Speaking while inaugurating the five-man Committee yesterday at Government House Umuahia, Governor lkpeazu disclosed that the relocation became necessary following government’s desire to maintain a health-friendly environment as the present location of the Abattoir has over the years posed serious health hazards to Aba residents as well as creating traffic congestion in the area.

The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu gave members of the committee two months to deliver and report back to government in line with laid down directives

Responding on behalf of the members of the committee, the Chairman and Commissioner for Trade and investment, Dr Cosmos Ndukwe thanked the Governor for finding them worthy to serve and assured that they would do their best to find a suitable location for a standard Abattoir that would be environmentally friendly and acceptable to all.

lheanyi Ubani who serves as Secretary, while lzuchi Nwosu, Chiazo Cyril Chukwuowo and Okechukwu Ndukwe serve as members.
