Some unclaimed permanent voters cards have been burnt at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission at Umu-Ikaa in Isiala Ngwa South Local government Area of Abia State.

The fire started around 2 AM in the early hours of yesterday, February 3, 2019.

INEC spokesperson in Abia, Oyetunji Bamidele who confirmed the incident also said the fire incident will not jeopardise its preparations towards the elections.

Also Police Public Relations Officer in Abia state, Geoffrey Ogbonna, who spoke the incident, said suspected hoodlums had poured fuel through the window of the office where the PVCs were kept and set it ablaze.

INEC staff in the Local Government had relocated to the office on Tuesday last week after their former office was also burnt down four years ago.
