Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau says the Federal Government has unveiled plans to invest in the building of modern prisons across the country.
Dambazzau stated this over the weekend at the inauguration of some projects at the Headquarters of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) in Abuja.
He said correctional facilities in the country are in dire need of rehabilitation or outright replacement.
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Adams Jagaban said the plan by the National Assembly to make the prison an efficient corrective service centre was already contained in the Nigeria Correctional Service Bill.
The lawmaker noted that the bill had been passed but is yet to be assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
