Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has promised to give bailout fund to Abia State University Uturu to enable the institution overcome some of its pressing needs.
Governor Ikpeazu who made the promise when he received a delegation of the Academic Staff Union Universities (ASUU) ABSU chapter who paid him a visit at the Government House, Umuahia, said he was more comfortable with a bailout as he could not promise an increment in subvention in view of the prevailing economic situations in Nigeria.
The Governor said he would hold a conversation with the vice Chancellor and Commissioner for finance with a view to finding solutions to problems confronting the institution.
He decried the new policy of centralization of admission by National Universities Commission as it affects the capacities of universities to admit legible students as well as generate funds internally.
Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation and Chairperson ASUU, ABSU chapter, Dr. Victor Nkemdirim, appealed to the Governor to help inject bulk money to assist the university attend to some of the plights of members of staff.
