Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has charged the National Youth Service Corps to change the spirit behind its scheme and ensure that Nigeria youths seize the opportunity of their service year to become job creators so as to contribute effectively to the socio – economy development of the nation.
Governor Ikpeazu who stated this yesterday while receiving a delegation of the Director of NYSC South East area office, Mrs. Ngozi Nwatarali and the new State Coordinator, Mr. Jingi Dennis, also made a case for the members of the scheme to become active participants in the local economies of their host communities.
According to Governor Ikpeazu, Abia State is setting up shoe factories in the State and emphasised the need for youth corps members in Abia to take part in shoe making and other viable sectors in the State. He assured the NYSC of his continuous support, adding that he would give Abia NYSC orientation camp the face-lift it needs.
Earlier Mrs. Ngozi Nwatarali said the delagation came to thank the Governor for his support to the scheme as well as introduce herself and the new State coordinator.
The NYSC Director informed that Areas offices were created to monitor the activities of the program in the regions and urged the Governor to continue to assist the NYSC. She thanked the Governor for donating a 100 KVA generating set among other welfare packages and requested the Governor to renovates the facilities in the orientation camp of Abia State.
