The Code of Conduct Tribunal has adjourned hearing in the case of false assets declaration filed against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, indefinitely.

The CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, who announced the adjournment said it was in obedience to the interim order granted by the Court of Appeal, Abuja.

The appellate court last week Thursday ordered the tribunal to stay proceedings pending ruling on an application to stay proceedings filed by Onnoghen.

The tribunal had, on January 14th, ruled that it had original jurisdiction to try the defendant.

Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar, said it was obligatory for the tribunal to respect the order of stay made by the superior court.

The tribunal had earlier ignored three restraining orders from the Federal High Court, FCT High Court and the National Industrial Court.

The orders were given sequel to pending suits that prayed the courts to bar the President, Attorney-General of the Federation, the Chairman of CCT, Chairman of CCB from taking steps against Onnoghen.

Meanwhile, Council to Justice Onnoghen Chris Uche reacted on the issue.

The suspended CJN is standing trial at the tribunal on allegations of non-assets declaration. PUNCH/TONY
