Ahead of the local council elections in Abia State, Citizens with Disabilities are calling for equal voting access for her members.
The group’s Executive Director, David Anyaele while addressing journalists in Umuahia, called on the state’s electoral body to ensure full participation of persons with disabilities, by providing materials in comprehensible formats for them during polls.
While decrying the high level of stigmatization from members of the public, Anyaele insists there is ability in disability.
The Executive Director noted that ten states of the federation have passed the disability bill, charging the Abia State House of Assembly to do same, to help the group exercise some rights in the society.
For the Citizens with Disabilities, there should be more enlightenment programmes for the general public to know about the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as the legal and moral imperatives of respecting and protecting their rights.
