Akwa Ibom State Government has condemned the recent travel advisory issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom on 21 states in Nigeria.
A statement on the UK government’s website said all travels to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River States and 20kilometers of the border with Niger in Zamfara State should be cancelled.
But reacting in a statement he signed, the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, and addressed to the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, H.E. Catriona Laing, maintained that Akwa Ibom is one of the most peaceful, safe and secure places in the country.
Ekuwem said this was incontrovertible, unvarnished and can be attested to by prominent and critical stakeholders in the nation’s security architecture and top business echelons and traditional rulers.
According to him, the US Ambassador, Stuart Symington had visited the State on two occasions within the last one and a half years
