Abia State Police command arrests suspects with illegal cooperative societies and financial institutions


The Abia State Police command has arrested eighteen suspects in connection with illegal cooperative societies and financial institutions.

Briefing the press in Umuahia, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike said over twenty groups masquerading as Empowerment and cooperative societies were unmasked while over ninety one million naira has been discovered in bank accounts of the suspects.

Ezike who paraded other thirty nine suspects for kidnap, armed robbery and other violent crimes, said his command will promote community policing to enhance the security of lives and property of the people.

In other to ensure accountability policing, Ezike stated that a monitoring unit has also been established to ensure that police activities are done in conformity with best practices.

Correspondent Nnenna Gabriel reports that the maiden briefing and parade of suspects were the first by the new Police Commissioner during which three vehicles, five motorcycles, one AK 47 rifle among others, recovered by the police, were displayed.
