Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has frowned at the proliferation of illegal task forces in the State which he says has created tension in the system.

Governor Ikpeazu made this known yesterday during a one-day stakeholders summit organized by the state Ministry of Transport, with the theme “Streamlining the Multiplicity of Taskforce in Abia State”, in Umuahia.

The Governor who spoke through his deputy, Sir Ude Okochukwu, said the multiplicity of these taskforce in Abia was depleting the ratings of the state in the area of attracting investment.

On his part, the Commissioner for Transport, Chief Godswill Nwanoruo, said that the Ministry’s plans to create a single statewide taskforce for the transport sector as part of its strategies to tackle multiplicity of task forces in Abia.

In her address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transport, Mrs Ijeoma Okere, said the multiplicity of the taskforce was depleting revenue generation and creating a poor image of the Government.

Also Speaking, the State Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Chief Eugene Eze, said that the summit and decision of the Ministry to create a single statewide taskforce was laudable and would make the business of transportation in the State viable. Correspondent Godwin Ike reports that the event featured lectures as well as question and answer sessions.
