Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has formally inaugurated the newly reconstituted Abia State Scholarship Board with Ambassador Empire Kanu as Chairman.
Speaking while performing the ceremony held yesterday at the Exco Chambers, Government House Umuahia, the Governor charged members of the Board to do a thorough evaluation and assessment of individuals deserving of the scholarship, stressing the need for the members to extend the scholarship to Abia children who actually need it
Governor Ikpeazu represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, informed that his government places high premium on education hence the decision to rejig the Scholarship Board.
He challenged the Board members to explore other opportunities like donor agencies to raise funds to support whatever government provides
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the board members, the Chairman, Chief Empire Kanu, appreciated the Governor for finding them fit for the assignment and pledged that the board would take the assignment very seriously and make merit her watchword.
Other members of the board include; Chief David Nwogu, Mrs Achama Malik Egbuta, Professor Sam Agu, Mrs Nnenna Anyanwu representing ministry of education, while Mrs Odochi Christiana Onuoha serves as Secretary.
