Following an explosion at the Cookies eatery at No 25 Brass Aba on Sunday, Abia state government have sealed off the place alongside the Richpon filling station close to it, pending the outcome of the investigation to ravel the cause of the explosion.
Speaking when he paid a visit to the area, the Commissioner for Environment, Tony Nwamuo, said the closure of the premises is the best option for the safety of the citizens whose lives are of great value to the state government.
Mr Nwamuo urged the employers of the eatery and filling station, to comply with the order and stop every activity which will further endanger the people.
According to the Environment boss, the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu administration is much concerned about the incident and will not allow any personal interest to override its constitutional rights of protecting lives and property.
Narrating the incident, the Managing Director of Cookies fast food, Chief James Ochunkwo, said the explosion took place around 6.45am on Sunday, and affected two of his staff, who were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
He said there was no fire outbreak after the explosion which left him speechless, recalling that the eatery started full operation in October last year.
