The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has called on all political, religious and community leaders to speak up against the abuse of women and children as this would give lasting solutions to the gender violence recorded on daily basis in the society.

The Governor’s wife made this known on Wednesday at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, during a one day Campaign against Gender based violence organized by the National council for Women society, Abia State chapter in conjunction with VICAR hope foundation and Each-One-Aid foundation.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Ikpeazu encouraged civil society organizations and women’s support groups to continue to advocate on behalf of victims and used the occasion to call on the State house of Assembly to pass bills for Law prohibiting all forms of violence against persons including laws abolishing harmful and obnoxious widowhood practices.

In an address, the president National Council of women societies Abia State chapter, Lady Eunice Nwaigwe, said the campaign was organised as a result of the obvious cases of violence meted against women and the girl child in recent times.
