The Senate has adopted a motion seeking additional funding for Primary Health Care centres across the country.
In a motion sponsored by Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, (Lagos Central), and 108 others, she said primary health care in Nigeria, which was adopted in 1998 as a National Health Policy and means of providing health services to rural dwellers, had collapsed.
Relying on the World Health Organization’s indicator, the lawmaker said Nigeria’s health care facilities had low performance in the world and added a corroborative index by the World Bank that primary health in the country was underfunded, which also brought about infrastructural deficit.
Tinubu who expressed concern over the condition of primary health care centres; adding that people at the grassroots needed to have access to health care.
